ADAM BEDENBAUGH AFTER HIS WIN
LATE MODELS

By ROB LEE
LAKE CITY, Fla. (July 30)
– The look of confidence. The team behind Adam Bedenbaugh had that look in Victory Lane Saturday evening at North Florida Speedway. The confidence was there all along and it helped propel the Lake City veteran to the Late Model feature win on night two of Summer Slam .“I hadn’t been able to work on the car a lot due to my job,” Bedenbaugh said. “But they put a lot of work into it, had it set up, changed about everything but the driver.”
Bedenbaugh won his heat, sat on the pole and held off the constant attack of Mark Whitener to take home the $2,000 top prize after leading all 22 laps.
“I heard him back there,” Bedenbaugh added. “But no one ever got alongside of me so I know we were running the right spot.”

(July 31, 2016 - Senoia, GA)  Jason Hiett jumped the border when his hometrack Talladega Short Track was forced to cancel due to weather and made the trip worthwhile posting the Super Late Model feature victory.  Hiett passes Senoia’s Joe Armistead, Jr. on lap 18 before pulling away to his first career win at the tough ‘Bull Ring’ Senoia Raceway.

Other winners on Saturday night included Senoia’s Clint ‘Cat Daddy’ Smith notching his eleventh Limited Late Model feature win of the season; Newnan’s Craig Scott getting his first in the Crate Late Models; Newnan’s Bobby ‘Wild Child’ Arnold in the B Cadets; ‘Smokin’ Joe Hillman of Villa Rica in the Hobby Stock; Monroe’s JJ Garrett in the Mini Stock and Conyer’s Tim Harmon in the Bombers.

Hiett caught up to Joe Armistead, Jr. near the halfway mark of the Super Late Model feature while moving high and low on the slick, but racey ‘gumbo’ clay that has made Senoia Raceway the talk of the short track racing scene in 2016.  Hiett and Armistead battled while two other great races developed directly behind.

Richards Reels-in No. 10 (Clanton finished second after starting ninth)

Article the property of Woo Media

OGILVIE, Minn. – July 13, 2016 – Josh Richards held his pointer finger high in the sky Wednesday night, repeating his victory lane celebration in the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series for the 10th time this season at Ogilvie Raceway. It was his 68th career series win.

“It was tough, I’ll tell you,” Richards said. “I want to thank the track guys. It’s a beautiful facility and I wasn’t expecting it to be this nice. It’s a great place to come. I didn’t think we’d have 10 [wins] this year and this early.”

Richards, who led the field into the green flag for 50 laps, never lost his top spot. Within the first 10 laps, Richards widened the gap between him and the field with his No. 1 Valvoline/ Seubert Calf Ranches Rocket car; the other two cars in the podium positions began to separate themselves as well.

On lap nine, Richards caught-up to the back of the pack only for the race’s first caution to follow on the next lap. On the restart, Rookie of the Year contender Tyler Erb took the highest line on the 3/8-mile oval, passing Eric Wells. Wells prevents a slippery slope, slamming the door on a charging Steve Casebolt. By lap 15, Richards extended his lead to 3.66 seconds.

The Florida Outlaw EMod Series competes both nights. Point leader Dale Graham attempts to shake off some bad luck with his Graham Auto/American Auto Body/Hale’s Auto Parts Shaw chassis.
Graham held on to the series lead last time at NFS by jumping behind the wheel of another car after his suffered issues.
“We feel like we got a chance at winning,” Graham said of the $750 to win weekend.

7-23-2016) Barberville ,Fl The Eagle Jet Top Gun Sprint Car Series made their return this past Saturday night to Volusia Speedway Park along with special events for the Allen Plumbing Hobby Stocks and the Gary Yeomans Performance Parts Mini Stocks.. The weather was beautiful in the Sunshine State as the temperatures were hot and the racing action was even more hot.
After a rain shower set the evening back one hour, Track officials ran through the night seamlessly gaining back that hour quickly as the first feature event of the night took the track just before 9:00pm with the Mercedes Benz Limited Late Models taking center stage. When the green flag dropped it was Sonny Thompson taking the early lead, but quickly had his hands full with Adam Bennett who has been coming on strong in his Mastersbilt #40 in recent weeks. Bennett won his heat race in dominating performance and by lap ten had worked his way around Thompson for the lead and set sail to take home his first win of 2016. Carter Dominates GIS Limiteds Lloyd, Payne, Wooten, Ammons, Bruner, Clark Also Take Checkers

PHOTO FROM CONNIE CARTER FACEBOOK

By Rob Lee WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (July 23) – The sigh of relief probably was synonymous with a tire deflating.
One can only imagine that was Ryan Carter’s reaction Saturday evening at Golden Isles Speedway.
Carter swept the Limited Late Model show, topping off the night with a flag-to-flag win in the 25-lap feature. That followed setting quick time amongst the 13 entries.
The high was about shot down on Lap 7 after Carter had paced the initial six laps. The caution flew as Carter sat in Turn 2 180 degrees from the correct direction.

Barker Showing GIS Championship Form…Again Seven Classes Battle Saturday On The Clay

By ROB LEE
WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (July 20)
– Johnny Barker climbed from his Camaro, mentally replaying the Enduro feature that just took the checkered flag at Golden Isles Speedway....
The fourth place finish July 8 during the Chuck Scott Tribute Race weekend had 12 drivers that placed behind the C & Y Automotive special salivating for that spot.
For Barker, it was his worst finish in five races. The Waynesville, Ga. pilot had two wins and a pair of runner ups prior.
The hometowner is coming off a 2015 championship run and has quickly raced to the top of this season’s point list. He holds a double digit point advantage over Charles Smith and Billy Ammons. In the new Super Challenge 5 Series, Barker trails Ammons by just four markers with three of five races in.
The switch from blue to red on the Camaro has just turned up the temperature of racing for Barker as he eyes both the regular season and SC5S titles.

Donnie Chappell wins in a wild one to take home the UDLMCS Win!

Photo from Stephanie Chappell
Article from track staff

7-16-2016) Barberville ,Fl  The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series made its return to the Volusia County Speedway this past Saturday night and the action was from start to finish as expected.
The first feature of the night saw Donnie Ashford take another win in the Allen Plumbing Hobby Stock feature, but not without pressure from Bubba Christen in the closing laps as his #04 made a hard charge to the front and was looking under Ashford for the lead at the stripe. Trevor Gamble, who let most of the first half of the race was third followed by Robert Sirmons and Grady Christen rounded out the top five.
The main event of the night saw a wild one with the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series. Jason Fitzgerald would jump out to the early lead over fellow front row starer Blake Spencer and lead most of the first half of the race as it wasn't until the races half way point the first caution flag would come out. at the half way point, the man on the move was fast qualifier Mark Whitener was on a charge from the back of the pack as he needed to switch to a Blake Spencer back up car due to mechanical failure in his #5. When the green came back out the battle was back on for the lead as Whitener would apply heavy pressure so Fitzgerald with only 20 laps to go until the lapped car of Carter Stokes would get into race leader Fitzgerald and Whitner. Fitzgerald was able to continue, but whitener was forced pit side with heavy damage to the right front ending his night. When the green came back out it looked like no one could touch Fitzgerald until the Jacksonville native lost his power plant setting up a dash for the win between Donnie Chappell and Joe Kump. The two would do battle until the end, but it was Chappell picking up the win in his newly acquired Bloomquist Chassis #44. Kump was second followed by David Clegg, Shan Smith and Jeremy Knoll.
The fireworks did not stop there on the night as the Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstocks also put on a show for the fans from start to finish. Mike Tovet would lead the first several laps once the race got going after several caution flags. David Showers Jr. would be on the move and Dalton Strehle, who was driving for Bobby McCormick, would also be on the march forward challenging for the top spot. The race was red flagged in a scary incident just before half way as Alan Peacock and Chad Scranton go together on the front stretch sending Scranton on a wild ride flipping over Peacock. Both drivers were un injured. When the race resumed the action did as well with Tovet holding off every charge from Strehle and Showers Jr. With only two laps to go Showers Jr. made his winning pass on the 1Shot and went on to score "unofficially**" another win on the 2016 season. Tovet was second followed by Strehle, Bubba Durbin, and Harden McCormick

(July 17, 2015 - Senoia, GA)  After completing a perfect slide job on a pair of young hot shoes, veteran short track ace Clint ‘Cat Daddy’ Smith of Senoia roared on to his sixth Super Late Model feature win of the season at Senoia Raceway.  Smith slid in front of Douglasville’s Mason Massey to gain second before performing the same feat two laps later to gain the lead over Senoia’s Joey Armistead.

“Finished second tonight, got passed on slider with a few to go. And finishing right behind someone with as much practice and experience as Clint isn't something to be upset about,” said the 19-year-old Armistead.  “On the bright side I learned a new move tonight.”

Smith also captured the Limited Late Model feature victory while Alabama’s ‘Thrillin’ Dylan Knowles won the main event for the Crate Late Models.  Griffin’s Jack Mills grabbed the checkered flag for the B Cadets and Curtis Turner of Brooks claimed the top spot for the Hobby Stocks.  Dorough Bright of Newnan won for the second straight week in the Bomber division competition and Griffin’s Marc Leath brought home his first win of the season besting the Mini Stock class.

July 11, 2016 – Senoia, GA)  Austin Horton of Whitesburg held off two late race challenges by Winston’s Michael Page and Senoia’s Clint ‘Cat Daddy’ Smith to win the Super Late Model main event at Senoia Raceway on Saturday night.  The 20-year-old stayed in front of the veterans to capture his second win of the season at the tough, racy 3/8ths mile ‘Bull Ring’.

Clint Smith did get into the winner’s circle hoisting the checkered flag after the Limited Late Model feature.  Winston’s Mark Page was victorious in the Crate Late Model race while Newnan’s Bobby Arnold won the B Cadet main.  Hogansville’s Gary Brand was the winner of the Hobby Stocks, Brannon Knight won the Mini Stocks and Newnan’s Dorough Bright won for the second time this season in the Bomber.

7-11-2016) Barberville, Fl It was another great night of racing at Volusia Speedway Park on Saturday as four classes took to the Worlds Fastest Half Mile with the Youngs Enterprises Iron Man Series Race #2 headlining the evening for the V8 Thunderstocks.
The first feature event of the night saw the Mercedes Benz of Daytona Beach Limited Late Models take center stage as Shan Smith made his second appearance of 2016 at VSP and would take home the win over Nevin Gainey who has dominated the 2016 season in his Snow Brothers 17G. Nevin has had a bit of bad luck as of late, but with his runner up finish reclaimed the points lead from veteran Paul Shead as only four points separate the two drivers. Tom Smith recorded his best feature finish of the year in third, Rookie Noah Cornman came home fourth and Lewis Ledlow rounded out the top five.
Next up would be the Daytona Sportswear Modifieds as Larry Burkins would continue flashes of the 2014 championship season dominating the feature event once again. Garret Stewart came home in second, Hunter Gustafson third, Dillon Buhr fourth, and Patrick Vereika come home in fifth, which also was his first start of 2016. The points battle still sees Stewart leading Burkins because Burkins missed a race earlier on in the year.
