My, my, my - fans in Middle Georgia are in for a treat this weekend especially if they love dirt track racing. Three huge racing events will be taking place at
Cochran Motor Speedway and
441 Speedway. The action gets underway in Cochran on Friday night and then there again on Saturday night. Sunday finds that action moving to 441 Speedway in Rentz, Georgia, just a few miles south of Dublin.
Fans may want to take off early to get to Cochran on Friday because they will not want to miss any of the action that gets underway. The gates will open at 4:00 PM with the drivers meeting beginning at 6:30 PM. Practice and racing action will follow shortly thereafter. That action will include a $1200 crate late model feature as well as heat races in Pure Stock, Bomber, Sportsman, Super Street, and National Late Model classes. Grandstand admission is $10 and a pit pass is $25.
Just in case you are from out of town and looking for a place to stay, there is a new hotel close to the track in Cochran. The name of it is the
Cochran Inn & Suites. Their contact number is (478)-271-9500.
Many race fans from the area will be getting together Saturday afternoon at the Pit Stop Cafe in Chester. The owner, Christine Thomson, just might have the TV tuned in to the Nationwide and Sprint Cup action that day. ESPN's afternoon coverage begins at 2:00 PM. The Philly Cheesesteak sandwich is highly recommended.
Saturday night is the big night in Cochran as the main event will be a 50-lap $5000
National Late Model Series feature. Once again, gates will open at 4:00PM. Feature races will be run in Pure Stock, Bomber, Sportsman, and Super Street classes as well. Grandstand admission for Saturday will be $15 and a pit pass will be $35. Children aged 6-12 are
$5 Grandstands and $10 Pits . Children ages 6 and under are admitted for free. Those wishing to save a little money and will be attending both nights may want to get the weekend pit pass at the discount rate of $50.
Just to make sure your racing appetite is whetted, the
American Crate Late Model Series have scheduled a makeup race on Sunday afternoon at 441 Speedway. It will pay $2000. A high car count is expected as a lot of interest has been expressed so far. Other classes which will be running are
Super Street, Pure Stock, Bomber, and Mini Stock. Grandstand admission will be $15 and a pit pass will cost $25. Children's prices are $5 Grandstands and $10 Pits.
Both of these tracks are known far and wide for their two and often three-wide racing action. After the NASCAR truck race opened the eyes of many more people to what dirt track racing is all about, this would be an excellent opportunity to invite your friends to come out and see some of the best racing around.
