Bama Bash 2014 New Location, Bigger Excitement

I make no apologies for the obsession I have for East Alabama Motor Speedway. It's a long lasting love affair that started from the first moments I ever stepped foot on the hallowed ground. I was at the Nationals last years when I heard over the intercom, Beverly telling everyone to make sure they were back from the intermission at a certain time so we could hear some big news they were announcing. My phone and Facebook immediately began to blow up from people everywhere asking what the big news was. I sat patiently waiting for the announcement and low and behold, the news WAS huge! The famed Bama Bash that had for the previous 16 years been held at Green Valley Speedway will be moved because of the track being sold, and will now be held at East Alabama.
The news was without a doubt, the icing to my cake as I was already in heaven being at the Nationals. Each day has been marked off the calendar getting one day closer to this historic event. A $17,017 paycheck will be handed to the lucky winner of the super late models. With a huge payday like that, you know all the major names in dirt will be there. Cook, Bloomquist, O'neal, Francis, Davenport, Landers, the list goes on and on for the drivers that are committed to coming. With an out of this world trophy and huge payday coming to the lucky winners in all divisions, it will bring out the best and brightest in dirt track racing. The payday will look like this:

Thursday, the trucks will start hauling in the multitudes of cars and people with a practice for all divisions at 5pm and then on Friday, gates will open at noon and practice and time trials in Late Model Sportsman, Crates, and NDRL Super Lates. Heat races will be ran in Hobby, Super Street, Bomber, Cruiser, and NDRL Supers. Saturday will culminate the weekend will gates opening at noon and at 5pm last chance races  and features will be ran in Hobby, Crates, Super Street, Bomber, Late Model Sportsman, Cruiser and NDRL super late models. It will be a weekend you'll create memories that will stay with you forever and will help carry on a storied Alabama tradition. If you've never been to East Alabama make your plans to go and bring someone to share the experience with. For more information check out their website at www.eamsdirt.com or call 334-297-2594.

Battle In the Swamp 2014

This past weekend at Waycross Motor Speedway, the battle began in the swamp and was a night that had a little bit of everything in the way of excitement. Ryan Carter started the night out in Emods with a win and in the pure stock division, Kyle Livingood in the fast Cheater Chassis 122 literally smoked the field when a leaky valve cover gasket caused him to smoke halfway through to the end of the race and with chassis builder Tony Bennett and car owner Carl Moore watching and holding their breath along with everyone else, Kyle took the checkered flag over the serious second place contender of Ronnie Newsome. In superstreet, Scott Crews was the man again at Waycross proving to have figured out the secret to a successful run at the track but behind him was an almost 3 way tie for second place coming across the finish line and had fans on their feet. In the late model series race, Jason Fitzgerald passed Adam Giles on the outside coming into turn 1 to end up winning the race. As soon as Jason made the pass fans flew to their feet and it was lights out after that. All feature videos will be posted below just click READ MORE to see them.

Golden Isles Overcomes Rain Threats to Bring Out Best of the Best

Friday Night Crate Late Models

Super Late Models

This past weekend Golden Isles braved rain and threats of rainy weather to bring some of the best racing with all the heavy hitters in attendance. Friday had a double feature because of a rain out on Thursday and fans got a full day of action with no rain in sight. In supers, Jonathan Davenport won the first feature of the day and for the second feature of the day Chris Madden, with two laps to go, won on a flat tire. Cecil Eunice was the winner in limiteds and Scott Crews was the winner in superstreet. Ray Cook brought home the trophy in the first crate feature of the day and Jason Fitzgerald was the winner for the second feature. Saturday brought an end to the weekend with Steve Francis winning in the super late model division. The crate late model feature had a spectacular pile up involving many cars and saw Mark Whitener in an almost flip on two wheels. Walker Arthur was the dominant car for the crate division and took the checkered flag. The Emod feature was pure excitement with well known Johnny Collins winning and in pure stock, Ronnie Newsome fought a hard fight to be victorious.

Luke Yoder: Trophy Maker?

Luke Yoder has been a jack-of-all-trades in racing over the years. From actually driving a race car to helping promote and put on events, he has done a lot for racing at the Watermelon Capital Speedway. Speedfest 2014 found him drawing on his creative ability and his regular occupational skills at Luke Yoder Construction to create a couple of works of art which now belong to John Hunter Nemechek and Chase Elliott. Those being the actual trophies which were won at Speedfest this year.
