Well, it's one of my favorite times of the year and that is the Thanksgiving holiday where I can eat till I look like the Michelin Man and the enormity of food piled on my plate is considered ok because it's a special holiday. If you saw this plate you would stare in amazement just believe me. The other part I love about this holiday is the fact that Chris Martin at Cochran Motor Speedway is putting on a special Thanksgiving weekend race called the Gobbler 100 and I couldn't be happier than to be at one of my absolute favorite race tracks instead of ninja kicking someone for a toaster oven or tv at a pointless Black Friday sale. Stuffing my face and then to watch all of my favorite drivers strap in to drive for a big payday sounds pretty much like heaven to me. I figure the excitement of the Gobbler 100 will get my blood pumping enough I can burn off some of those Thanksgiving calories. Keep that in mind in case you eat too much too. Racing and blood pumping will burn those calories, or at least let's tell ourselves that to make ourselves feel better about all that turkey and dressing.
Seriously, why would you not come for this huge race? Let me help you out, you won't want to miss this for anything. Not even that toaster oven. Thursday will start with a practice for all divisions and gates will open at 4pm and practice from 6-9pm. Grandstands will be free and pits will be $15. Friday will have gates opening at 2pm and hot laps starting at 6pm. Grandstands will be $10 and pits will be $30. Friday night will have qualifying and heat races in all divisions and an added bonus of a Southern Outlaws feature and also the top 6 in late model qualifiers will run a Dash for Cash! Saturday will see gates open at 12pm and hot laps beginning at 4:30pm. Grandstands will be $15 and pit passes will be $35 or if you plan to be there all three days you can get your pit pass for $75 for the weekend. Features and last chance races will be ran on Saturday with Bomber, Pure Stock, Superstreet, and Sportsman running for $2000 to win in each division and late models running for the big $10000 to win payout.
The track is going to be extremely accommodating to cars from the different racing areas by giving some leeway in certain areas but the recommendation is for all drivers to call the tech man Jerry Norris at 478-934-6835 for complete details pertaining to your car. The All Star Stock Car Series (which I hear is a FANTASTIC series) cars are more than welcome to come with their cars and some weight may be added to some of the cars depending on certain aspects. Cochran Motor Speedway is welcoming everyone to come race and will be more than fair in creating an even racing field for each and every competitor. Their only concern is to create an exciting atmosphere for fans and drivers alike for each and every person that comes in their gates to have the best possible experience at their race track.
Also, the 525's have been invited to join in the fun of running for the $10000 to win payout in late models but will have to weigh 2400 pounds and run 50 pounds in front of the bell housing. The tire rules for the late models will include Hoosier, Spec. D21, Crate D21 and 55, Spec. 1350, Spec. D55, D70 or American Racer Spec 48 & 56. You can contact Chris if you need any of these tires and he will have them at the track for you. Also, if you plan to camp for the weekend you can camp outside the track for absolutely nothing. NO CHARGE! Sounds good to me! I like free! With a track trying to accommodate the different race cars coming, to make a fair playing field, and giving fans really great gate prices, it will be an understatement to say the pits will be packed and the stands too. It already looks to be a huge crowd coming! What could be better than eating till the button pops off your pants and then watching one of the best races of the year? I can't think of anything better than that because I love food as much as I love to breathe and racing is right there with it, and to top it all off, I get to save those ninja skills of mine on something other than trying to get a t.v. or toaster oven. So, save the karate for another time and come out and see all the excitement this Thursday through Saturday at Cochran Motor Speedway for the Gobbler 100! See you all there!!!
