LAKE CITY, Fla. (May 28)
– The fireworks flew overhead as the checkered flag waved.
It was a perfect
symbol how Devin Dixon shot from the third starting position and exploded the
rest of the Late Model field Saturday evening at North Florida Speedway.
Dixon wheeled the Big
Frog Motorsports/Dave’s Towing/Keyser Manufacturing Koury-powered Rocket mostly
up by the cushion to the 20-lap feature win and left the field to try and
re-light.
“I couldn’t run up
there in the heat race or earlier because it was too crummy,” Dixon said in
Victory Lane. “In the feature we could get up there and the track rubbered up
so we could run right through that.”
Dixon struggled some
in the heat, but pulled away in the feature to nearly a half lap win.
“We tried some things
in the heat that didn’t work,” Dixon said. “But crew chief Mike (Rey) worked on
some things and had it easy to drive.”
John Kellum, Brandon
Cameron, Adam Bedenbaugh and Larry Anderson rounded out the top five.

Magic In The Air as Whitener Bags $3k I-95 Toyota LM Run Barker, Wooten, Durrance, Quarterman also take GIS checkers
By: Rob Lee
WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (May 21) – A battle. Some magic. Another battle. More magic.
The Magicman endured all of that and Mark Whitener took home the $3,000
I-95 Toyota Late Model Challenge Series feature Saturday evening at Golden
Isles Speedway.
Whitener, Middleburg, Fla., won his heat and started the finale outside
of polesitter, fast qualifier and other heat winner Devon Dixon.
The latter wheeled the Big Frog Shock and Suspension Technology/Dave’s
Towing/Big Frog Signs and Graphix Koury-powered Rocket to the point at the drop
of the green with Whitener in hot pursuit.
Dixon would only open a couple car length advantage until the first
magic for Whitener’s United Land Clearing/Racecar Engineering Koury-powered
Longhorn.

(May 22, 2016 - Senoia, GA) Clint ‘Cat Daddy’ Smith led every lap Saturday night to claim his second Super Late Model feature victory of the season at Senoia Raceway. The veteran driver also went flag to flag in the Limited Late Model main event to win his fourth of the year while Randy Cornwell clean swept the Hobby Stock twins. The duo dominated their features at the tough 3/8ths mile ‘bull ring’.
The winner’s circle did welcome a couple of newcomers as Dustin Ogletree won the Mini Stock main in his first visit to Senoia Raceway and Jody Knowles topped the B Cadet feature for a first time trip. Bubba Pollard returned to dirt racing this weekend and won the battle for the checkers in the Crate Late Model division while Tim Harmon notched the victory for the second straight week in the Bomber class.

$3,000 brings the best to GIS Saturday
By ROB LEE
WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (May 19) – There are some hot streaks hoping to continue.
The best Late Model drivers in the bi-state area converge on Golden Isles Speedway this Saturday evening and a handful are looking to keep good runs going.
The I-95 Toyota Late Model Challenge Series had a hard time getting the green flag due to weather. If Mother Nature cooperates Saturday, drivers like Rhett Carter and Devin Dixon will be among the favorites.
Apollo Beach, Fla.’s Dixon recently took over the well-known Big Frog Motorsports ride and comes to GIS off a win in his home state.
“I’m really excited to be driving for Big Frog Motorsports, so it feels really good to get this first win with the team,” commented Dixon in the team press release. “Hopefully this is the first of many to come.

Clanton Claims Classic For Second Consecutive Year

(May 15, 2016 - Senoia, GA) Zebulon’s Shane Clanton made it two for two in the race honoring his late father. Clanton claimed the 2nd Annual Billy Clanton Classic Saturday night at Senoia Raceway after working past Southern All-Star Series points leader Riley Hickman from Cleveland, Tennessee, with ten to go. He used late race cautions to get close to Hickman before overtaking him and then pulling away.
“The cautions helped us tremendously. We had a good race car all night, but just messed up in qualifying,” said Clanton afterwards. “We just got a game plan together there to bide our time. The cautions fell at the right time…man what a race track. I’ve said it before: this is the best race track in the country now!”

WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (May 14) – It was good to be out front. Or maybe it
was not.
Michael Lloyd took advantage of demolition derby-type situations and
won the Limited Late Model Super 5 Challenge at Golden Isles Speedway Saturday
evening.
“It was good just to finish,” Lloyd said. “The car had some damage, but
the night turned out all right. I’d rather be lucky than good any time.”
Polesitter Woodrow Mullis had built a straightaway advantage as Lloyd
moved into second in the 25-lapper. The 17-year old superstar was then gathered
in a crash from Cecil Eunice spinning in turn three on Lap 12 and was forced
pitside to change a tire.
“We started picking off some cars,” Lloyd said. “We were way behind.
(Mullis) probably would’ve won if he wasn’t in the wreck, but we were gaining
people said.”

Carter Thunders to STLMS Checkers at NFS
By ROB LEE
LAKE CITY, Fla. (May 7) – When Rhett Carter mashed down the accelerator pedal at the drop of the green flag he knew the road to the checkered flag would be more finesse than speed.
The Hoboken, Ga. driver found the right mixture and won the Southern Thunder Late Model Series event at North Florida Speedway Saturday evening.
Carter picked up $2,000 and led all 40 laps on the 3/8-mile clay oval.
“It definitely was a lot more than going fast tonight,” Carter said in Victory Lane. “I stuck to the bottom and made it work even around traffic.”

Parker Wins For Mom On Mother's Day Weekend
Gary Parker Photo Credit - Francis Hauke |
Submitted by Ted Austad
(May 8, 2016 - Senoia, GA) An emotional victory capped a night of action packed stock car racing at Senoia Raceway Saturday night. Barnesville’s Gary Parker lost his mother earlier in the week and contemplated skipping out on a night at the track. The former mini stock track champion opted to ‘race for mom’ and came home victorious on Mother’s Day eve.
“He said in the truck on the way to the track that he was going to win for mom,” said his wife Norma Jean afterwards. “And he did win it!”
Joining Parker in victory lane were Senoia’s Clint ‘Cat Daddy’ Smith in the Super Late Models an Joey Armistead in the Limited Late Models. Newnan’s Parrish Duncan topped a strong field of B Cadets while fellow Newnan driver Michael Nelms bested the Bombers. Franklin’s Chris ‘Ironman’ Steele notched the victory in the Hobby Stock.
Parker had to work for his first win of the season. He worked past another former champion Harold Leath of Hampton near the halfway mark and then used the high side of the race track to dispose of Lithia Springs Ronnie Teal. The determined Parker would hold off Powder Springs’ Denver Stepp on a later race restart to secure his trip to the winner’s circle and honor his mother’s memory. Stepp ended up second ahead of Teal. Locust Grove’s Mike Younginer was fourth with Leath rounding out the first five.
