Mark Whitener Wins In Guest Appearence as David Showers Jr. Stays Red Hot!

Photo from Bridgett Whitener
Report from track staff

Barberville ,Fl
6-27- 2016)  Mother Nature tried her hardest to take another night of racing on Saturday night, but Rob Underwood and the track prep crew were ready this time. Around 5:30pm the track was hit with a massive rain shower that would threaten the nights racing action, but the track was packed in very hard and would only take about two hours to be completely run in. After the drivers meeting everyone agreed they came to race and they would stick the night out.
It ended up being a great night of racing action as Mark Whitener would top the Advanced Medical Labs Late Model division in a thriller with Jason Fitzgerald. The two would exchange the lead three times before Whitener got around Fitzgerald for the final time with a power move off turns four with ten laps to go. Nevin Gainey would finish third, David Clegg fourth and Howard Stalls rounded out the top five.

David Markham wins your Florida Outlaw Series feature at North Florida Speedway

By ROB LEE

LAKE CITY, Fla. (June 25) – The strategy changed.

David Markham steered the nose of his car a little lower in the racing groove the last few laps Saturday evening at North Florida Speedway.

That mentality helped win his first ever Florida Outlaw EMod Series 15-lap feature.

Markham used speed through turns one and two to try and outrun top challengers Nick Kirkus, Chase Collins and Jason Garver.

“I messed up a couple times, but I really didn’t want to lose that race,” Markham said. “I was going to do whatever it took the last couple laps to hold them off.”

(June 26, 2016 - Senoia, GA)  Just one week following the untimely death of this father in a motorcycle accident, nineteen-year-old Dylan Knowles captured the victory in the Crate Late Model feature at Senoia Raceway.  Knowles held off a late race charge by Senoia’s Bubba Pollard to secure the victory and honor the memory of his father and crew chief.

“I just want to thank everyone for everything this past week,” said Knowles just prior to a special victory lap.

DUDLEY IS DOMINANT IN $4,000 WIN AT COCHRAN

Montana Dudley brings home $4,000 in the Nesmith 604 race at Cochran

News release from Nesmith Racing

Cochran, GA – Montana Dudley of Phenix City, Alabama swept the action at Cochran Motor Speedway in his Zaxby’s Rocket to pick up the $4,000 payday at the south Georgia oval promoted by Chris Martin and Jonie Martin. Dudley set quick time during qualifying time trials, was able to jump out to the lead on the initial start and led the feature for 60 laps. While that statistically sounds like a not so exciting event on paper, the action on track was

Cornwell Wins By A Whisker To Keep Senoia Streak Intact

Submitted by Ted Austad

(June 19, 2016 - Senoia, GA)  Randy Cornwell has been racing with a target on his back most of the season as the Fayetteville driver has posted eight Hobby Stock wins and four in a row at the ‘Bull Ring’ Senoia Raceway.  It looked like Cornwell would be knocked out of the winner’s circle Saturday night, but the second generation driver inched past Villa Rica’s Joe Hillman at the finish line.

“I want to thank Joe for racing us clean,” said Cornwell afterwards. “That was an exciting finish to a really fun race.”

Redemption for Dixon on wild night at GIS Ammons, Tuten, Keller, Stevens also outlast the full moon

Photo from Augie Burttram Facebook

By Rob Lee

WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (June 18) – The dust flew across the lights and the full moon peaked in and out of clouds over Golden Isles Speedway Saturday evening.

The full moon was a partial hint of some wild racing action on the 4/10-mile red clay speed plant.

But don’t try to convince Devin Dixon.

He wheeled the Big Frog Motorsports/Dave’s Towing Koury-powered Rocket to a flag-to-flag win in the 30-lap I-95 Toyota Late Model Challenge Series. The win was somewhat of redemption from his last showing at GIS May 21, wrecking with a lapped car while leading.

“We had a really good car last time we were here,” Dixon said. “But that’s why they call it racing and not winning.”

I-95 Toyota Late Models Roar For Four

By ROB LEE

WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (June 15) – The checkered flag floated in the air guided by Golden Isles Speedway official starter Barry Boatright over the Longhorn chassis of Mark Whitener on May 21.

That brought the count to two winners in two I-95 Toyota Late Model Challenge races. Rhett Carter’s victory last Saturday took that streak to three.

Will the series visit to the GIS 4/10-mile red clay oval this Saturday June 18 make it four for four?

More than two dozen race teams will have something to say about that in the $3,000-to-win battle.

Any of the three previous winners have a shot, including Blackshear, Ga.’s Carter.

“My whole team worked hard tonight and it (paid) off,” Carter said on Facebook after his June 11 win.” I am very fortunate to get to go to these different tracks each weekend and race. Without the guys that help me that would not be possible and I appreciate it more than I can

explain with a FB post. From the financial providers to guys turning wrenches thank all of y'all so much.”

LAKE CITY, Fla. (June 11) –  The quick move was part of the mission.

Karlin Ray made the move and his Camaro stuck and shot to the front on the very first lap.

Nineteen circuits later around North Florida Speedway, the Flora City teen had one of the biggest wins of his career.

Ray won the “Prelude to the Benny” Thunder Stock feature Saturday evening. A check for $1,000 and a guaranteed starting spot in the September 24 Benny Corbin Memorial went with the victory.
“That was the plan – to get out front early and stay there,” Ray said in Victory Lane. “I knew it would be tough, but the track, I could go anywhere and we outran them

Cat Daddy Clint Smith Continues Senoia Domination

Clint Smith
Submitted by Ted Austad

(June 12, 2016 - Senoia, GA)  Many of the fans are asking, who is going to stop Clint ‘Cat Daddy’ Smith at Senoia Raceway?  The veteran stock car racing ace is currently on  seven race win streak dominating both the Super Late Model and Limited Late Model division since mid-May at the ‘Bull Ring’.  It looked as though Smith’s streak would end on Saturday night when Winston’s Michael Page finished a car length out front in the Limited Late Model main, but Page was too light at the scales and was stripped of the victory handing it to Smith and keeping his streak intact for another week.

Smith chased down fast qualifier Mason Massey in the Super Late Model show.  Massey had built a several car length lead over the field before Smith broke loose from the pack and began reeling in the youngster from Douglasville.  Smith has been tutoring Massey for several months as the former national Legends Car champion transitions to dirt racing.  Massey has learned quite well from his teacher, but one little bobble in turn two of lap 19 was all that it took for Smith to pounce.  The four-time Southern All-Stars champion never looked back posting the victory over Massey.  Forty year veteran Ricky Williams of Fayetteville had his strongest showing of the season finishing in third ahead of Douglasville’s Lamar Haygood and LaGrange’s Chad Marchman.

Popular Super Challenge action continues at GIS Saturday

Photo from Washam facebook

By ROB LEE
WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (June 1) – One engine screams at high RPM as a right rear tire nicks the red clay cushion. Just to its left another throttle flutters some as the sleek wrapped race car negotiates right along the inside berm.
Drivers have one opinion in common. Golden Isles Speedway is best when the 4/10-mile oval is racy with at least two grooves. That is the way GIS has been most of the season and it is bri...nging out the best in the drivers especially during the Super Challenge 5 Series events
