JEFFERSON, GA (August 13, 2012)- The Larry Fleeman Memorial 100 was nothing short of exciting! Every local division race put on a show and Spencer Davis gave Pro Late model Drivers a run for their money.
The night’s race events began with an exciting Mini Stock race. Scotty Beck, who won the last Mini Stock race at GMP in July, earned the pole position for the Larry Fleeman Memorial Mini Stock Race. Aaron Calvert wasn’t going to let Beck have two victories in a row.
On the fifth lap of the race, Beck, Calvert and BJ Thrasher went nose to tail for the first three positions. Beck and Calvert pull ahead to fight for the lead. Calvert pulled to the first place spot on lap 17 and Beck drove to the top of turns three and four. A caution was called to allow Beck to get off of the track and Calvert took the lead off of the restart. Calvert won the checkered flag, leaving Trace Embry in second and Avery Burgess in third. Allen Cantrell and Zack Minnielly rounded out the top five.
The Renegade/Sportsman race got off to an interesting start when Mike Childers and Robert Hubbard made contact on lap three. Hubbard spun around in turn two and Childers landed sideways against the fence on top of Hubbard. A red flag was called and drivers waited patiently for almost an hour while the wreck and fuel was cleaned up.
Sportsman and Renegade drivers made the race worth the wait for fans. Jackie Daniel took the checkered flag for the Sportsman race with John Michael Mobley, Matthew Widener and Jeff Chadwick rounding out the field.
Nathaniel “Boo” Carlisle drove into Victory lane to claim the Renegade trophy for his first win at GMP. Robert Hubbard, Mike Childers and Marty Martin finished behind Carlise.
The Oulaw Late Model race was one full of competition and excitement. From the drop of the green flag, Russell Fleeman, Jason Bates and Matthew Wragg had their eyes set on a victory and they were willing to fight for it. Fleeman and Bates broke out in front of the field to battle for the lead. With Fleeman in first, Bates was on his bumper, but he just couldn’t get past Fleeman. Fleeman received a standing ovation when he pulled into victory lane to meet his friends and family.
Young Spencer Davis is becoming a popular name at GMP. Winning the Pole position for the Truck race, Davis had strong motivation to stay out front and that he did.
After Kevin Vasser made contact with the back of Emilee Riley’s truck and drove through, Vasser ripped off the hood of his own truck. After the restart, Conrad Compton tried to take the lead from Davis, but he couldn’t catch up to him. Davis received the checkered flag and left Compton behind to finish second.
As if winning the pole position and the Truck race wasn’t enough, Davis stole the show in the Pro Late Model race. Without one caution throughout the entire race, Davis worked his way from the fourth position to the lead. Davis, Anderson Bowen, Hunter Robbins and Colt James put up a fight for the first place spot. The Crane Cams Pole Winner, TJ Reaid, started strong before falling back to fifth place, where he ran steady throughout the majority of laps. Davis and Bowen had to maneuver through a cluster of lapped cars to finish the race. The task was difficult, but both drivers proved their skills to cross the finish line. Davis took home the Larry Fleeman Memorial 100 trophy and title. Bowen, James, Reaid and Robbins rounded out the top 5.
