Cordele, Ga - Under threatening skies and rain showers to the North and South of Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele on Saturday evening, track officials along with drivers worked diligently on drying the speedway for racing to take place. After the track drying was complete, the racing action for the evening began.
With drivers electing to run feature races only after the lengthy delay, the Super Street division was up first in there fifteen lap event which had Billy Nipper of Cordele scoring his first win of the season with Cody Hale of Americus finishing in second and David Woodard rounding out the top three.
The Enduro division and there fifteen lap event rolled off the grid next with Jimmy Nasworthy of Fitzgerald picking up his third win of the season and second in a row with Michael Hutto of Cordele in Second and Justin Duckworth of Cordele finishing in third.
The Pro Challenge Series were next on the program and it had Birmingham Alabama native Joseph Pilato picking up his fourth win at "The Melon" this season with Joe Wilder of Mariette finishing second and Zachary Ayers also of Marietta rounding out the top three.
The fifteen lap Mini Stock event had Cordele's Banks Perdue picking up his second win in a row with James Pennington of Perry crossing the line in second and Americus native Merle Diem coming home in third.
With a large number of Legends cars in attendance in preparation of the August 28th INEX regional qualifier, it was Woodstock's Justin Thomas scoring the win with Madeline Crane of Meansville in second and Phillip Young of Dallas rounding out the top three.
Just like the Legends division, a large field of Bandoleros was also on hand in preparation for the regional qualifier on August 28th. For the Bandolero Bandits, which are kid’s ages eight to eleven, Connor Younginer of Stockbridge picked up another win of 2012 with Lawson Ingold of Social Circle in second and Abby Marin of Peachtree City in third. For the Bandolero Outlaws, Taylor Jorgensen of Sockbridge continued with her winning ways and scored the victory with Tyler Moseley of McDonough in second and Jensen Jorgensen in third.
Ending the racing program were the Go Karts with Doug Sanneman of Perry scoring the win with Jamie Bailey in second and Roger Sears rounding out the top five.
The next race at Watermelon Capital Speedway, located just west of I-75 exit 104 in Cordele, Ga., will be August 28th. The program will feature an INEX Regional Qualifier race for Legends and Bandolers plus regular racing in local classes which will include Go Karts, Mini Stock, Enduro and Outlaw Latemodels.
