Jefferson, GA (January, 24, 2013) – Gresham Motorsports Park is at it again! With another race season ahead, GMP has great things in store for fans and competitors! The season will kick off on March 30, 2013 with the Larry Fleeman Memorial Race when Mini Stocks, Renegades, Sportsman, Trucks, Outlaw Late Models and Pro Late Models return to GMP.
This race event was originally designated to be a memorial race event. The passing of Beau Slocumb titled GMP’s first and second memorial race. GMP felt that the life of Larry Fleeman, an honorable partner and loyal friend of GMP and the racing community, should be remembered and recognized. Because this race was not designated for one particular driver or person, the memorial race will continue to remember and honor those that have passed that were loved by all in the racing community and the name of the race might stay the same for a couple of years or it might change from year to year.
The Larry Fleeman Memorial Race is a 198-lap race and will consist of two segments. The first segment will be approximately 100 laps and cautions will count. There will be a ten-minute break on or around lap 100. If there is a caution between laps 90 and 100, the field will be brought to pit road and the ten-minute break will begin. The remainder of the laps not run in the first segment will be carried over into the second segment, only if there is a caution between laps 90 and 100. Caution laps will count in the first 100 laps and the last 98 laps will be green flag laps, cautions will not count.
If you elect not to work on your car during the break, you will advance to the front of the field in the order that you are running. If you choose to do anything on your car during the break (this includes tires and fuel), then you will go back out in the order that you entered into the pits, but behind the cars that chose not to pit and work on their cars. The first car one lap down at the break will restart the second segment on the lead lap at the tail end of the longest line regardless if they work on their car or not.
The Larry Fleeman Memorial Race is an 8-tire race. Pit and tire selection will be based on
the order in which entries are received.
There is a $200 registration fee and registration forms, race procedures,
rules and the purse structure is available on www.RaceGMP.com. The finishing order and purse will be
determined based on completion of the entire 198-lap race or completion of an
official race event. Purse will
not be divided between segment 1 and segment 2.
Fans and drivers can also print off fliers for the Larry Fleeman Memorial Race to pass out to the public or to post in public places and businesses. The flyer and a printable version of the race day schedule will soon be posted under the tab “Larry Fleeman Memorial”.
Friday, March 29, practice will be from 3 pm to 7pm and will be free for anyone to watch from trackside. Saturday, March 30, the pits will open at 8 am, grandstands and trackside parking will open at 11 am and opening ceremonies will begin at 5 pm.
“Because this is Easter weekend, GMP will be conscious of the time and do everything possible to wrap up the night’s events as early as possible,” said Dan Elliot, GMP General Manager. “We do not want to take away from the importance of the weekend and Easter celebration.”
