(Cordele, GA) - For the second year in a row Watermelon Capital Speedway,
located ¼ mile west of I-75 exit 101 in Cordele,
GA will host SpeedFest which features some of
the best Pro Latemodel and Super Latemodel drivers in the United States
along with some big name NASCAR stars.
Sanctioned by the Champion Racing Association, the event
will consist of a 200 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series event and a 100 lap JEGS/CRA
All-Stars Tour Presented by Chevrolet Performance special event. Both events
will only count green flag laps, a change from previous seasons. There will be
a halfway break at lap 100 for the 200 lap ARCA/CRA Super Series event.
Just as in years past, both races will feature some of the best latemodel race car drivers from throughout the United States along with some NASCAR drivers as well as up and coming second generation NASCAR drivers. Highlighting the list of early entrants for the ARCA/CRA Super Series include NASCAR driver and Unadilla, GA native David Ragan, 2011 ARCA/CRA Super Series Southern Tour Driver Champion Bubba Pollard, JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour 2012 Rookie of the Year Award winner Anderson Bowen and ACRA Midwest Tour competitor Travis Sauter of Wisconsin. For the 100 lap JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour early entrants include 2011 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Rookie of the Year Award winner Cody Coughlin from Ohio, also Georgia natives Dalton Grindle, Mason Massey and Matthew Wragg and Florida competitor Kyle Bryant. Second generation NASCAR stars that have already entered include Chase Elliott son of NASCAR driver Bill Elliott, John Hunter Nemechek son of NASCAR driver John Nemechek and Harrison Burton son of NASCAR driver Jeff Burton.
SpeedFest weekend will kick off on Friday January 25th with an optional practice day while Saturday January 26th will consist of practice and qualifying for both divisions and Sunday January 27th will feature the running of SpeedFest 2013. Friday schedule of events has gates opening at 10am with practice from 12pm until 6pm. On Saturday, gates will open at 8:30am with practice beginning at 12pm and qualifying at 4:15pm. The weekend concludes on Sunday which will have the pit gates opening at 8:30am, Grandstand gates opening at 11am, an on-track autograph session with both divisions with other special guests participating at 12:30pm, driver introductions at 1:30pm and at 2pm racing will begin. Rapping up the weekends festivities will be a fireworks display following the conclusion of the racing program.
