Weekend Outlook: Needmore Speedway

Saturday night is the second round on the Needmore return schedule and if there were 100 cars at the last race, I expect even more to be at this race. The proximity to most drivers' homes is a huge turn on to most and with the track being widened slightly before it was opened has allowed them to swing out higher in the turn and give them more room to race each other. Not to say there weren't a few wall scrapes last week. Chris Davis, in the #94 late model hit the wall and rode a couple of feet which, I'm sure he didn't like, but it had the fans oohing and ahhing.

In the hobby stock class, I saw the leader, Leon Childs get spun out and still come back for the win. A huge pile up was remeniscient of the "BIG ONE" at Daytona and had one car, the #8 of Ronnie Newsome, get hit, come to the pits, get sent to the back, and STILL come back to a 6th place finish. There never seems to be a shortage a excellent racing at Needmore with some of the best drivers in south Georgia battling for wins. I don't know how easy it will be for drivers who aren't local to come in and beat these guys and girls but I would love to see some try. It will make for even more excitement and heated battles. At Needmore, there's never a shortage for both.
The race track will be ready for all that and more this weekend with a lot of the credit going to Keith Stith and Dan Broome for having the track ready to race and for being prepared for the throngs of fans and drivers alike coming through the gates. The effort on their part makes it possible for crazy fans like me to come and enjoy Needmore. So I say, if you need a diversion from the ordinary or to scream your head off for your favorite driver look no further than 1060 John Vickers Rd. in Norman Park, Georgia. You'll be hard pressed to find more excitement anywhere. For more details check out Needmore's website for all the details on rules and ticket prices.
