Weekend Outlook: North Florida Speedway
This weekend marks the 4th annual Summer Slam at North Florida Speedway and this huge event is going to be even bigger than ever. The festivities are going to kick off on Friday and will include qualifying and heat races for all the pure stocks, street stocks and sportsman divisions. The winner in each heat race will collect $100. They will lock in 12 cars, the top 4 in each heat. There will also be a feature for the box stocks and limited modifieds. You do NOT have to be present on Friday to run B mains on Saturday. Saturday will have the features for the Pure Stocks with $1000 to win, Street Stocks feature winners will get $2000 to win, Sportsman feature winners get $1500 to win and box stocks are $500 to win. There will also be a swap meet all day Saturday. The street stock that travels the farthest will have a position in the feature locked in for them. There will be a B main for street stocks with a lock in for the last 12 cars in the feature.
There is never a shortage of cars at this race and if you want to see a packed house this is where it's at. Last year they had no less than 30 cars in every class and with 5 classes running that's 150 cars! The rules for each of these classes are that the drivers can run the rules from their track. The street stock class has an entry fee of $150 all other classes have none they just have to pay their way into the track. Each feature winner will be pulling a number between 8 and 20 and whoever finishes in these spots in that race will get extra incentives. Cars from as far south as Miami are expected to show up and cars from our Western neighbor Alabama are expected to come. When we say this is a BIG race, this isn't an exaggeration. There's also free overnight parking for those coming from out of town.
There will be a lot of giveaways by the tracks during night. Lowes has given 15 different tool sets for the track to give away along with all the other prizes the track will be giving away. Giving back to the fans and drivers are what the owners Phil and Liz Guardagno have always been about. I have said it before and I'll say it again, these are the most unselfish owners. They started this race 4 year ago to give back to the lower classes who have supported them all year long. They get satisfaction in giving back and really enjoy hanging out with their drivers before, during, and after the races. The pits open at 12pm on Friday and grandstands open at 6pm with racing starting at 7pm. Saturday, pits will open at 12pm and grandstands at 6pm. Hot laps start at 6pm and racing at 7pm.
