ADAM BEDENBAUGH AFTER HIS WIN
LATE MODELS
By ROB LEE
LAKE CITY, Fla. (July 30) – The look of confidence. The team behind Adam Bedenbaugh had that look in Victory Lane Saturday evening at North Florida Speedway. The confidence was there all along and it helped propel the Lake City veteran to the Late Model feature win on night two of Summer Slam .“I hadn’t been able to work on the car a lot due to my job,” Bedenbaugh said. “But they put a lot of work into it, had it set up, changed about everything but the driver.”
Bedenbaugh won his heat, sat on the pole and held off the constant attack of Mark Whitener to take home the $2,000 top prize after leading all 22 laps.
“I heard him back there,” Bedenbaugh added. “But no one ever got alongside of me so I know we were running the right spot.”

Whitener also finished runner up to the Bedenbaugh’s Increte Systems/Bratcher Construction/Capital Metal Supply/Top Flight Construction Snow Brothers chassis with Wildcat Performance power in the second heat. The Magicman chased the whole distance in the feature, but the high line was not enough to allow the Middleburg driver’s United Land Clearing/RaceCar Engineering/Bozard Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Longhorn with Koury power around.
Georgia’s Jay Johnson and Florida pilots Ryan Van Sickle and Donnie Chappell rounded out the top five in a very entertaining race where nine different drivers ran in the top five.
THUNDER STOCKS
David Showers, Sr. waited out the huge Thunder Stock field and moved by Darrell Roberts to take home the $1,000 Saturday. The St. Augustine veteran watched the race unfold after starting ninth in the 26-car lineup and picked his way to the front in the Showers Chassis/River Rat R/C Track special.
Karlin Ray used his experience on his home track to drive to second place late. His last turn attempt to overtake Showers fell short. Ray ran middle of the pack most of the race after a couple miscues before his late race run. Shane Taylor, Roberts and Nevin Gainey followed to the checkered flag.
The finale was Saturday after heat races Friday determined the grid.

MODS
Mavrick Varnadore held off constant challenges from veteran Devin Dixon to win the Open Wheel Modified feature Saturday. The middle and low worked well for the Dover, Fla. ace to hold off the high side hustling of Dixon.Garrett Stewart, Shawn Taylor and David Crews were next.
emods
Chase Collins hopped behind the wheel of Marc Mcleod’s EMod and swept the Florida Outlaw EMod Series weekend. He topped features both Friday and Saturday.“I thank Marc for a great car,” Collins said Friday. “I had to take my time and use different parts of the track. It was a little wet, but once it blew off it was OK.” Friday night was special for hometowner Tyler Sistrunk. He steered the gracelandportablebuildings.com/BadBoyRaceChassis/SmithAssetManagement/Creative Concrete/Tire Mart of Lake City/RH performance “Lake City Lamborghini” to his first Hobby Stock feature win at NFS. His only other win at NFS came in a Box Stock in 2008.
“This is unbelievable being out here topless on a special night,” Sistrunk said. “We work on it all day, every day as much as we can. It’s one of those things that it has been trial and error and it paid off. “

Box Stocks ran full shows both nights with Seth Caudill, Jr. and Shannon Lang winning 12-lap features.
The Dirts4Racing 3/4 Modifieds joined the Saturday performance. Chuck Cessna beat Kevin McKenzie in the finale.
Many of the cars ran topless and the 22 lap distance was in memory of local racing legend Frank Webb.
NFS now takes its second half of summer break with the next scheduled event Sept. 10.
