Tyler and Kristy Crowder

Seymour, TN - The "Tallahassee Terror" Tyler Crowder drove the Crowder Excavating special to his second win of the 2016 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series season at Mitch and Tanya McCarter's 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN on Saturday night August 13th. Crowder bested a strong 29 car field to claim his second win in the last three Chevy Super Series events.
Statistics don't do the race justice as Crowder survived several mid race challenges from different drivers, and was able to avoid a late race charge from Hall of Famer Ronnie Johnson to cross under the Sunoco Race Fuels checkered flag 0.639 seconds ahead of Johnson.
Crowder and local hot shoe Matt Henderson made up the front row of the 24 car starting field and would lead the field to green in front of the crowded 411 grandstands. Crowder would use his pole starting position to edge in front of Henderson as intense racing action that "Tennessee's Action Track" is known for broke out all throughout the field. The first of 6 caution flags came on lap 3 for the slowing 44 car of Doug King who would retire from the event.
The field would roar back to life with Crowder keeping his lead as Henderson, Friday night's winner at I-75 Raceway John Ownbey, and Crossville's Brandon Williams waged war on each other. Caution would wave again at lap 15 for the slowing car of Tim Busha who retired after pulling up to the top of turn 1 off the pace.
As the race for position raged through the field on the restart, lap 28 contact between the 92 of Rodney Martin and 99 of J.R. Moseley led to Moseley's car pulling up lame down the back straightaway. Martin had a right rear flat, Moseley sustained front end damage, and Matt Henderson was involved. Martin and Moseley would return, but Henderson would retire from the race. The restart would be short lived as caution would once again be displayed on lap 31 after contact between the 00 of Mayfield and 55 of Ryan King caused the 55 to spin collecting Oliver Gentry's 03 Machine and the J8 of Jadon Frame.
Completing lap 31 proved difficult as on the ensuing restart Trey Wood stopped at the top of turn 1 with suspension damage. Again on the next restart to complete lap 31, contact between the 45 of Doug Smith and 55 of Ryan King would bring the yellow out. Smith would continue, but King would retire.
The field was able to resume racing and the battle upfront heated up as Brandon Williams and 10th starting Ronnie Johnson began racing feverishly with Jake Knowles and John Ownbey for the top 5 spots. Williams made a daring move to move up alongside Crowder off of turn 4. Williams great run would soon come to an end as his car slowed on lap 34 with rear-end parts failure.
The ensuing restart would see intense battle between Johnson and Ownbey that allowed Crowder to establish as several car length lead. Once Johnson was able to finally pull of the pass of Ownbey, he set his sights on the race long leader. As the laps remaining shrunk, so did the lead that Crowder had enjoyed. With two laps to go Johnson had gotten to within 3 car lengths and the crowd knew that the race was far from over. Crowder took the white flag with Johnson 1 and ½ car lengths back heading into turn 1. Johnson threw one last ditch effort but would come up just short at the finish.
Crowder is in the thick of a tight point battle at the top of the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series standings. Knowing the importance of cashing in on maximum points, Crowder is poised to make a final run towards being crowned the 2016 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series champion. Jake Knowles, Ronnie Johnson, and Tim Busha hope that they are able to cool down the red hot Crowder heading into the final two events.
The next events for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series comes on Saturday September 3rd at Dixie Speedway, and then the 2016 Season Finale for the series on Sunday September 4th at Rome Speedway for the 1st Annual Chevrolet Performance 100. The first 100 lap event at Rome Speedway in over 15 years, and also the 50th Anniversary of Rome Speedway will happen on this big series season finale weekend!
