I have an idea and I need some help in fleshing it out or
maybe I even need someone to just tell me that it is a hair-brained idea and
that I need to drop it. It goes like
this, I want Atlanta Motor Speedway and the local short tracks within a certain
radius of them to form a partnership. Crazy huh?
A few months ago when the local tracks weren’t really racing
to any degree and most of them were holding their post-season banquets, I
started looking at the schedule to see how my plans for the beginning of the coming
season would go. One of the big events early on was the NASCAR race weekend in
Atlanta. Already, I was hearing how people were concerned about possible low
attendance for those events. That concerned me too and got me to thinking even
more about what could be done to generate more interest. It was about that time that it hit me, why
not get these two groups to partner together to help promote each other?
Hey, at that time of year, since the local tracks aren’t really
cranked up and running, why not give them an opportunity to come to Atlanta and
be recognized by their fans and peers during the NASCAR weekend? That’s right,
put on a ceremony where all the local track champions are rewarded for their
accomplishments and really make a big production of it. What would it take to
set something like that up? You know, get a couple of big wheels to give away
trophies and provide a couple of tickets to those champions for the NASCAR
events that weekend. I am thinking that such a gala could replace end of the year banquets for participating tracks and possibly save them lots of money.
Heck, wouldn’t it be nice if some sort of program could be
devised where those fans who attend local tracks during the season could be
rewarded by being offered the opportunity to get discounted tickets and maybe
even get to sit in the same section with other like-minded individuals. The
local tracks that choose to participate could help promote ticket sales for AMS
each week as part of their contributions. Maybe AMS could even give away a ticket or two each week at the participating tracks. Local track announcers could really push it and encourage others to attend. Putting a lot more butts in the seats is a good thing, isn't it?
I’m sure that a lot of ideas in this area can be generated
if we can get people to thinking about it. That is what I am attempting to do
by writing this column. I want to hear from drivers, fans, and promoters about
whether or not such an idea like this would work or not. Please, let me hear
your thoughts. I’m sure many of you can come up with other ways that these
groups could come together to benefit all parties involved. Why, you might ask?
The reason is simple, we love racing and we want to see it succeed at every
level. At least I hope that is the case.
A Facebook comment section will be included below this post
and you can comment there or you can send me a message at dhall31794@gmail.com if you like. What would it take for you to attend Atlanta Motor Speedway's NASCAR events? Maybe
if we can come up with some really good ideas, the powers that be may be
listening and just might implement some of them. So, please give this some
thought, think of some ideas which would benefit all parties, and then share
those ideas. Or, if you want to, go ahead, shoot this idea down. It just might
be a hair-brained after all.
Thanks in advance for your efforts to help support racing in
the Deep Dixie Racing area.
