(April 24, 2016 - Senoia, GA)  He gave up the lead position near the half way mark of Saturday night’s main event at Senoia Raceway, but South Carolina’s Chris ‘Smokey’ Madden fought back to overtake Zebulon’s Shane Clanton on the final lap to win the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil feature to pocket the $6,000 top prize.  Clanton was planted in his door panel out of the final turn as Madden crossed only .013 seconds ahead of his pursuer.

“It’s hard to find places where you can race like that and this (Senoia Raceway) is one of them,” said Madden in victory lane.  “That was definitely exciting for the fans, and it’s fun for us.  We don’t never get to race like that and that was fun.”

LAKE CITY, Fla. (April 23) – A former track champion got reacquainted with North Florida Speedway Saturday evening.
Justin Galbreath started seventh, glued his PC Cycle/Discount Towing/ Impressive Chassis to the bottom groove and methodically picked his way to the Open Wheel Modified checkered flag.
“It’s great to be back,” Galbreath said in Victory Lane. “We were able to use the bottom and the car was good.”
The Panama City driver’s final hurdle was Jason Garver with five circuits to go in the 15-lapper. The last NFS OWM winner Garrett Stewart also made it by for second at the end. Wesley Duboise and Jim Passino rounded out the top five. Stewart kept his streak alive of not finishing outside the top four during the regular season.
Galbreath, the 2014 NFS champ, was leading the heat race when the car sharply turned right entering turn three.

(April 18, 2016 - Senoia, GA)  Zebulon’s national championship driver Shane Clanton topped the field of Super Late Models for the second time this season warming up for this upcoming weekend’s special event at Senoia Raceway.  Clanton went flag to flag to claim the checkered while fellow national champion Bubba Pollard of Senoia claimed a flag to flag win in the Crate Late Model feature.  Pollard’s national honors have come on asphalt tracks while his dirt racing resume is growing.

“The caliber of drivers we have a Senoia Raceway is one of the best anywhere in the country,” said promoter Mayes Massey.  “Plus, the younger drivers that are getting better and better each week is phenomenal. It is really exciting to watch unfold.”

Other winners on Saturday night included 19-year-old Senoia hot shoe Joey Armistead in the Limited Late Models, Whitesburg’s Blant Duke in the B Cadet, Warner Robbins’ Randy Cornwell in the Hobby Stock and James Swanger of Whitesburg in the Bomber.  Monroe’s JJ Garrett took him the victory in the Kajun Mini Stock Association special.

To Answer Your Question About Why I Do It

Many people who know me, know I'm from a small town in South Georgia about spitting distance from the Florida Georgia line. No, not the country singing duo but the actual line between the two states. To go see any race it's going to be a drive for me anywhere I go. So, last weekend I decided I was going to take a trip to the good ole state of Mississippi and check out a race over there at Whynot Raceway in Meridian. As we say where I'm from, I was going "over yonder". From the moment I said where I was going to the time I got there and even after I left the question everyone asked me was "What made you go so far?". I was asked over and over again in texts, phone calls, in person, and even on my snapchat. I would just say "Well, why not?".

Edge Picks Up First Career STLMS Victory

Photo from Southern Thunder Late Model Series

Article by Southern Thunder Late Model Series

The STLMS rolled into Cochran Motor Speedway Saturday night and the large crowd on hand witnessed a great show. The track conditions were near perfect which provided two, three, and at one point four wide racing. The night began with Home Furniture and mattress qualifying. Cole Exum set the fast time and picked up the $100 award. Up next was the 40 lap main event and Cole Exum and Rhett Carter led the talented field of drivers to the g...reen flag. When the green flag waved Exum and Carter battled side by side for the lead as several other drivers began moving through the field. Carter took the lead as Exum faded to fifth and Keith Edge, Larry Harrod, and William Thomas began to attempt to chase down Carter. The first caution waved on lap 22 and on the restart Carters night would come to an end as the result of a driveshaft issue. After Carter was out the race restarted and Keith Edge took the lead and held on to pick up the win. Cole Exum drove his way back to the front and to within a couple of car lengths of Edge and wound up second, William Thomas worked his way up through the field and was third, Larry Harrod, and Russ Ogletree rounded out the top five. This was The first STLMS career win for Keith Edge. William Thomas, Larry Harrod, and Russ Ogletree also earned their career best finishes with the STLMS. We want to sincerely thank the everyone for your support. Our next event is on May 7th at North Florida Speedway.See More

(April 10, 2016 - Senoia, GA)  Slick racing conditions created a few tense moments at Senoia Raceway on Saturday night, but when the final checkered flag of the night fell there were some new faces in victory lane.  Aplin’s Brandon Overton visited the ‘Bull Ring’ for the first time and held off all challenges by defending Craftsman Tools World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Shane Clanton to claim the victory in the Super Late Models.  Also, making their first trip to victory lane this season at Senoia Raceway were seventeen-year-old Newnan high schooler Trey Wood in the Crate Late Models and Alabama’s Chris Arnett in the Bombers.

NASCAR, Is It Losing Touch With Fans In South Georgia? The Rest Of The Country?

Over the last few years it has become more and more difficult to find a radio station which broadcasts a Sprint Cup race in the southern part of Georgia. With that in mind, you can imagine how difficult it is to find any stations which carry the Camping World Truck Series or the Xfinity Series. Support programs for all three series are practically nonexistent too. By support programs, I mean those shows which provide driver interviews and inside information about what is going on in the world of NASCAR.

This past weekend was just one more time I had to get in my vehicle and start a trip while a Sprint Cup race was going on. I had been watching the start of the race on television and I was hopeful that I could at least get an occasional update on the radio as I was leaving Georgetown heading back to Tifton. Alas, it was not to be. After repeated efforts in searching failed to provide even a semblance of a signal to coverage of the race, I resorted to attempting to use an application on my cell phone to listen to the race on the Motor Racing Network. The hills and hollers between Georgetown and Albany pretty much stymied that effort too. Cell phone coverage is not the very best in rural parts of our state just in case you haven't noticed.
