September 29th- Things
got off to a bang Saturday night with dark storm clouds in the horizon and a
full moon shinning down. As the Super
Street heat took the track the lights went out in turn one. After a short delay the super street action
got underway followed by 3 heats of hobby stock cars, e-mod and 2 heats of
limited sportsman.
At intermission the 10 and under
kids took to the front straight away for the Golden Isles Speedway Quarter Toss
sponsored this week by Southern Star Feeds of Brunswick and Crosby Pontiac of
Waycross. As the kids chased the
quarters down, the crews were working hard and fast to beat the rain to get the
feature races in for the night.
The C&L Performance Auto
Super Street Feature staged 9 cars for a 15 lap shoot out. Keith Smith led the pack to the green flag
and held the lead until Daron Bailey and Chris Keller both got around him. After several laps of great racing between
Bailey and Keller for the lead the checkered flag fell as Daron Bailey took his
first win of the year followed by Keller with Smith finishing in third.
Just as the Wooten Transmission
Hobby Stock Feature took the track the rains began to fall. After a quick shower, 24 hobby stock cars
took the track for an action packed feature that resulted in the lead cars
having to work through lap traffic. The
lapped guys tried to hold off the leaders, but rubbing IS racing—right? At the end Brian Wooten took the checkered
flag yet again followed by Chris Keller Jr and Brian Grantham. The #3 Wooten machine was protested and found
to be legal for the second week in a row.
If you drive an Audio Designs
& Custom Graphics E-Mod it seems the rain and watching 25 hobby stock cars
beat around the track really gets your blood boiling because when they took the
track the action was ON. There was
rubbing, bumping, and banging and good ole dirt track racing on EVERY lap of
the 15 lap feature. After leaders
Phillip Albritton and Jimmy Peele fell out of the race Kyle Arvin took the lead
and the win followed by Ray Durrence Jr and J.D. Jeffers.
The Safety 1st Driver Education Limited Sportsman Feature took the green flag with 13 cars and after several laps of exchanging paint the top several positions separated themselves but the racing behind them was intense to say the least. As the time expired on the feature just short of the 25 laps the checkered flag saw an old familiar face coming its’ way out of turn four as Cecil Eunice took the win followed by Rick King and Toby Justice.
