Southern Super Series Adds Money to Races & Pole Winners

Submitted by Sheena Elliott

The hype surrounding the inaugural season of the Southern Super Series is growing everyday and now so too is the purse for each of the 125-lap races on the 2013 schedule.

Officials from the series announced today that each of the 14 regular distance races will now pay $5,000. That is a $1,000 jump from what was originally announced. In addition, at all events, the fast-qualifier for each race will receive an additional $500. The award is supported by a variety of engine builders, including Hamner Racing Engines of Alabama, McGunegill Engine Performance of Indiana, Progressive Racing Engines of Florida and RW Racing Engines of Tennessee.

“Our races are now five and five, $5,000 to win and $500 to start and we are proud of that,” said Tim Bryant of Five Flags Speedway in Florida and Mobile International Speedway in Alabama. “We are excited these engine builders stepped up for the racers with this pole award and we have other sponsors that we will be announcing soon about helping with the winners purses. We felt like we were on to something all along when we started discussing this series. Things are really coming together between the five tracks currently involved and it has been very pleasant to know that there has been a lot of interest.”

The inaugural event for the Southern Super Series will be at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee. Many racers have already expressed a lot of interest in competing in the opening event for the SSS.

“Since it is a traveling series, we felt like everything we could do would be to the racers benefit,” said Tony Formosa of Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville. “We are offering a unique marketing program here at the FGSN to our sponsors. SSS has drawn a great deal of attention from drivers & also to our sponsors.”

In fact, it has also been announced that Team Construction will be providing that actual bonuses for the winner and fast-qualifier at the SSS opener.

“Donnie Mingus is a former Super Late Model team owner and a track supporter. As soon as the words fell from my mouth he agreed to add to the purse and pole award through his company Team Construction,” added Formosa. “I think this series is just what we needed here in the south. Looks like it’s all going to be good as the entry forms roll in here at the FGSN from drivers all over the country. I can’t wait until April 6th.”

The 2013 Southern Super Series will also crown a champion at the conclusion of 16 races. That title will be worth $10,000. The series will race at five different racetracks in four different states, including Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Tennessee, Five Flags Speedway in Florida, Gresham Motorsports Park in Georgia, Mobile Int’l Speedway and Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama.
