NeSmith Late Model Sportsman Rules and First Wave of Sanctioned Speedways Released

Columbus, MS - The NeSmith Racing organization released the 2017 Late Model Sportsman Rules package at a scheduled Promoter's Meeting on Tuesday October 4 th, 2016 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. The meeting is the first of several that are in the works for current and potential track promoters to discuss and explain rules, operations, and technical procedures. Along with the release of the rules, several tracks in attendance expressed great interest or signed up to add the division to their programs.

The Late Model Sportsman Division was one of the highlights of the meeting as the announcement concerning the birth of the new division under the Crate Racin' USA/NeSmith Racing banner has created much anticipation and "buzz" among competitors and speedways alike. The rules package for the division will focus on cost saving measures that will allow current and future racers a very affordable avenue to get into dirt short track racing affordably.

The class will feature Late Model style cars powered by the Chevrolet Performance 602 crate engines which have a proven reputation for durability, low maintenance, and most importantly affordability. The class will also implement other cost effective measures such as: a solid body shock rule with no adjustments to eliminate the costly shock packages that many of the upper level Late Model divisions are using; and a single tire utilization of the Hoosier Racing Tire Crate Racin' USA D21 tire with no grooving or siping among other measures that will be implemented to keep the class affordable.

The appeal of the affordable Late Model division has been incredible as inquiries to the NeSmith Racing office and many of the Speedway's offices have been flooding in. Of the tracks in attendance, six have decided that the NeSmith Late Model Sportsman division will be added to or will be fit into their racing programs. Those tracks include: the longest tenured NeSmith Racing sanctioned speedway, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL; another NeSmith Racing staple, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS; the Thomas family's historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL; two Florida panhandle area tracks, Southern Raceway in Milton and Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker; and the newest addition ECM Speedway in Bremen, AL.

More details will be released as more tracks are being actively recruited and negotiations with others are currently taking place. Along with releasing more tracks, information regarding the points fund payouts and other information will be released as it becomes available. The NeSmith Racing website is currently being updated to add the Late Model Sportsman division information.
