The Golden Isles Speedway has been re-opened since June 2012. The track is being run by Darryl Courson, a local resident and longtime racer. Grandstand admission for regular shows is only $8.00 per adult or $15.00 per couple, pit admission $20.00 for adults and children under the age of twelve (12) will be admitted to both the grandstands and the pit area for FREE. Gates will open for biweekly programs at 5:00 p.m. with racing 8:00 p.m. Located in Waynesville, Georgia, this 4/10 mile, high-banked, D-shaped dirt track hosts regular racing in Limited Late Model, Super Street, Hobby Stock, E-Mod, and Powder Puff divisions.
On Saturday September 15th the Limited Late Model Blowout was held with 29 cars taking the green flag for 50 laps and a $1500 prize to win. After many tries at getting a lap in the book the drivers settled in and provided an action packed feature that was well worth the wait. Russell Brown Jr. took the checkered flag with Cecil Eunice right on his bumper followed closely by Hunter Carter.
Other Feature results were SUPER STREET 1-Scott Crews 2-Chris Keller Jr. 3-Daron Bailey, E-MOD 1-Jimmy Peele 2-Ray Durrence Jr. 3-Marty McGuire, HOBBY STOCK 1- Brian Wooten 2-Brian Grantham 3-Chris Keller and POWDER PUFF 1-Tami Clark 2-Taylor Clark 3-Makayla Tyrrell. At the end of the night the carburetor from the #3 Hobby Stock (Brian Wooten) was impounded and taken to 3 carb specialists including Holley Carburetors and found to be legal. GIS will be running a regular show this weekend, September 29th with gates opening at 5:00PM. Our next big event will be October 13th for SUPER STREET & E-MOD with $800 to win each class, MUST HAVE 15 CARS to pay the $800 prize.
