Driver of the Year Nominee: Ronnie Lee Newsome

Ronnie is the youngest driver on our list but what he lacks in the years of driving the other drivers have he makes up for in skill and success at such a young age. Running at tracks like Needmore, Golden Isles, and Douglas Motorsports Park he has shown serious aptitude and cunning in his sport. He had 7 wins at Needmore Speedway this year with 5 of them consecutive wins. Ronnie ran 16 races this year and only finished out of the top 3, three times.

Ronnie is always in the front at every race he's in because he has a fire in his eyes and a passion he brings to each and every race he's in. He has been around racing his entire life with his dad, Lee Newsome being a driver himself. Ronnie knows what it takes to get up on the wheel and chase that checkered flag down. He's a clean driver who's consistent each and every week. Ronnie says to be patient and when to go is key to success on the track. He had a lot of help from sponsors Langdale Fuel, Langdale Ford, Inox, and Extreme Motorsports. Help from his dad has brought him help in his winning and he says he's learned a lot.
Ronnie says Mr. Johnny is also a big part of his success and is thankful to have him a part of the race team. Instead of being like most teens and going out to hang out or goof off Ronnie can be found any given night in the shop proving hard work and dedication are what makes him a good driver. He gives up a lot of other things normal teenagers would do to concentrate solely on racing. It's what he's always wanted to do and what he wants to continue to do. His high points of his season was  being able to run against his dad when not many people are given the opportunity to do that. It has created memories that will stay with him for a lifetime. Winning 5 straight races this year was another highlight and in such a great field of competitors it's a big deal.
To him, being in a category with such great drivers is overwhelming and he says he couldn't have gotten here without the fans. When he learned of the staggering amount of support he was completely humbled by it. It has made him an even more determined driver who's ready to focus even more to prove to every one of his fans that they made the right choice. It's a trait that a driver with a lot of heart has and he has that in spades. Next season he is going to be back at the wheel and more determined than ever driving in a limited late model, part time late model, and part time hobby. Ronnie will also run in the Frank Kimmel Street Stock Series this April at Rockingham Speedway and possibly Iowa in July. Ronnie is a driver who may be young compared to the other drivers but he has the talent and skill to take him far in his career and it has brought him success this season. How far he goes, we'll all have to watch and see, but with Ronnie I wouldn't be surprised if it was all the way to the top.
