First Super Challenge 5 crown down to last go at GIS

Enduro Challenge on tap

By : Rob Lee

WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (Sept. 7) Four checkered flags have waved from high above Golden Isles Speedway. One still to fly before the Enduro Super Challenge 5 inaugural champion is crowned.
The numbers 21 and 6 have been in the upper reaches each and every SC5 so far.
Only two points separate Billy Ammons and Johnny Barker in the standings with Ammons holding the advantage. Barker would need to finish at least three spots ahead to overtake his fellow hometown driver.
Barker leads the regular season points.
The Super Challenge 5 Series has proven to be popular with car counts under 20 Enduros only once. More than 20 used the Aug. 27 regular event to tune up for the SC5 finale.
Timmy Roach won that tune up. This Saturday’s winner takes home $1,000.
The SC5 doubleheader also includes the EMods with $1,500 on the line for the top finisher.
Garrett Lloyd is the dominator, on top of both the SC5 Series and regular season points. The Jacksonville, Fla. ace picked up the only SC5 race run so far over Chase Collins, Bud Chancey, Dillon Turner and Keith Tuten.
The GIS Late Models and NeSmith Performance Street Stocks also are in action.
Brian Wooten looks to wrap up the NPSS track championship during the final points event of 2016. He leads Brian Grantham 117-111 before the final green flag.
Every GIS Late Model event in 2016 has doubled as a series event until this weekend. A good field is expected to sling the red gumbo clay on the 4/10-mile speed plant.
Pits open at 4 p.m. Front gates open at 5. Hot laps are set for 7 with racing to follow.
