Ross Delivers Dominating Performance at Needmore

Saturday night was a highly anticipated night for South Georgia. Needmore Speedway was scheduled to have its first race of the season. Gates opened at three and fans and drivers alike were already waiting. Earliest arrivals were the ones hoping to get the best spots nearest to the track and get prepared for racing the quickest. As time passed, more and more cars and people arrived in what seemed like an endless wave. The race track was filled all around the track, in the stands, and in the pits. The sounds of race cars cranking in the pits could be deafening and the glint of the sun off so many race cars could be blinding.

In all there were 100 cars with 18 of them being late models. All representing different areas of South Georgia. Hot laps started the night for the late models and got the drivers quickly in tune to the track. Qualifying followed with Gene Ross setting the fastest time and getting the pole followed by the number 111 of Steven Roberts. No heat races were ran for late models so they had time to go and prepare their cars for what would be a show-stopper. As the race began Gene Ross started with a dominant lead and was determined not to give it up. The first caution was brought out when a multi car wreck occured in turns 3 and 4 that brought wrecked cars to the high side and low side of the track and creating some artful dodging by the rest of the field.
The next caution was brought out when Levon Sloan hit the wall hard in turn 2 and rode the wall for a few feet which was what happened on a following caution to driver Chris Davis. Gene Ross seemed to have complete control of the track and gained a good lead over second place of Steven Roberts. Third place was a battle between the number 10 of Adam Giles and the number 8 of the "South Georgia Nightmare" Lee Newsome with Newsome eventually taking over the third spot. Fourth place battle soon began between Giles and number 16 Josh Southerland which was won by Giles by a close margin when the checkered flag dropped. The top 5 finishers were:

1st: 33 Gene Ross
2nd: 111 Steven Roberts
3rd: 8 Lee Newsome
4th: 10 Adam Giles
5th: 16 Josh Southerland
