Barker Showing GIS Championship Form…Again Seven Classes Battle Saturday On The Clay

By ROB LEE
WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (July 20)
– Johnny Barker climbed from his Camaro, mentally replaying the Enduro feature that just took the checkered flag at Golden Isles Speedway....
The fourth place finish July 8 during the Chuck Scott Tribute Race weekend had 12 drivers that placed behind the C & Y Automotive special salivating for that spot.
For Barker, it was his worst finish in five races. The Waynesville, Ga. pilot had two wins and a pair of runner ups prior.
The hometowner is coming off a 2015 championship run and has quickly raced to the top of this season’s point list. He holds a double digit point advantage over Charles Smith and Billy Ammons. In the new Super Challenge 5 Series, Barker trails Ammons by just four markers with three of five races in.
The switch from blue to red on the Camaro has just turned up the temperature of racing for Barker as he eyes both the regular season and SC5S titles.

The Enduros will pile on to the 4/10-mile gumbo red clay oval with six other classes this Saturday evening July 23.
The Powder Puffs make their 2016 debut with $200 to win.
Point leaders in the other five classes will try to pad their gains as the Limited Late Models (Woodrow Mullis), EMods (Garrett Lloyd), NeSmith Performance Street Stocks (Brian Wooten), Super Streets (Chris Keller) and 440s (Joe Quarterman) also hit the clay.
Hot laps are set for 6 p.m. with racing to follow.
