Bronson, Wooten on Chuck Scott Tribute poles Lloyd, Keller, Carlino win on night one at GIS

By Rob Lee
WAYNESVILLE, Ga. (July 8) – Race fanatics can see it in race team members’ eyes. It was even apparent in the level of racing Friday evening at Golden Isles Speedway.Chuck Scott meant a lot to the southeast Georgia racing community and beyond. So a top performance in the inaugural Chuck Scott Tribute Race – or any race - was a high priority.
“It’s always cool to come to one of these races,” Late Model ace Kyle Bronson said.”I don’t care what kind of a race it is. Me and my ...

Me and my guys always put 100 percent into the car and we always want to win them all.”
Bronson won the I-95 Toyota Late Model Challenge Series White Brothers Auto Parts Warehouse Dash for Cash and will start on the pole for Saturday’s 30-lap, $3,000 to win feature.
The Brandon, Fla. ace came by the checkers ahead of Scott Johnson, Mark Whitener, Rhett Carter, Cecil Eunice and Devin Dixon.
Bronson’s Brandon Ford/All Florida Real Estate Group/Dirt Wrap/Racecar Fabrication Longhorn chassis was fast qualifier of the 17 cars on hand with a lap of 15.910. Dixon was the only other driver in the 15 second bracket and battled with “Killer” until suffering a flat tire on lap 4 of the six-lap, $500 winner take all sprint.
“I had a really good car and was able to drive through there,” Bronson added. “I stayed up top a little too long there and started getting dirty. I saw Devin there and we rubbed a little bit and I’m sorry about that. But that’s racing and we came to win the race.”
All 28 NeSmith Performance Street Stocks entered will line up for Saturday’s finale worth $2,000 to the winner plus a new 602 crate engine.
Point leader Brian Wooten, Bud Chancey in the other Joey Meyers-owned car and polesitter Brian Hansford won the preliminary heat races Friday to determine how the field comes to Saturday’s green flag.
Five classes and 88 total entries kicked off the two-day event.
Garrett Lloyd goes for the EMod weekend sweep. He won Friday’s 15-lap feature and paced every circuit. It was his fourth GIS victory in five tries.
“I mean I’m not always the fastest,” Lloyd said. “But, when the car’s hooked up and can ride around the bottom it doesn’t get any better than that. I never tried the top side – never had to. The track was great.”
Trey Pearson, Bud Chancey, Keith Tuten and Nick Kirkus rounded out the top five.
Last race winner Chad Tuten came across third, but was light at the scales and disqualified.
The driver with a chance at both Enduro features will be John Carlino. He picked up the 15-lap win Friday. Charles Smith, Jack Hill, Johnny Barker and Dylan Taylor followed.
Kyle Davis led the opening five laps before developing a push and eventually pulling to the pits. Smith and Hill also led in the race.
Another turning point was before the green ever flew. Favorite Billy Ammons engine compartment caught fire on the pace lap. He was relegated to the pits and done for the night.
Chris Keller stayed on the point the entire caution drawn out Super Street 15-lap final.
Caleb Payne, Will Gardener, Preston Tomlinson and Luke Hayes followed. Payne took the runner up spot on the final turn.
There have been four different winners in four I-95 TLMCS events. All four start Saturday’s main in the top 10. A Bronson victory would be five different winners.
The final night of the Chuck Scott Tribute has feature races for the I-95 TLMCS and NPSS to highlight the evening. Also
there will be complete shows for EMods, Limited Late Models, Enduros and 440s.
The LLM winner takes home $2,000 as part of the season-long GIS Super Challenge 5.
Hot laps are set for 6 p.m. with racing to follow.
