7-11-2016) Barberville, Fl It was another great night of racing at Volusia Speedway Park on Saturday as four classes took to the Worlds Fastest Half Mile with the Youngs Enterprises Iron Man Series Race #2 headlining the evening for the V8 Thunderstocks.
The first feature event of the night saw the Mercedes Benz of Daytona Beach Limited Late Models take center stage as Shan Smith made his second appearance of 2016 at VSP and would take home the win over Nevin Gainey who has dominated the 2016 season in his Snow Brothers 17G. Nevin has had a bit of bad luck as of late, but with his runner up finish reclaimed the points lead from veteran Paul Shead as only four points separate the two drivers. Tom Smith recorded his best feature finish of the year in third, Rookie Noah Cornman came home fourth and Lewis Ledlow rounded out the top five.
Next up would be the Daytona Sportswear Modifieds as Larry Burkins would continue flashes of the 2014 championship season dominating the feature event once again. Garret Stewart came home in second, Hunter Gustafson third, Dillon Buhr fourth, and Patrick Vereika come home in fifth, which also was his first start of 2016. The points battle still sees Stewart leading Burkins because Burkins missed a race earlier on in the year.

The newly sponsored Gary Yeomans Performance Parts Gladiator division took to the track next to last on Saturday night as it was Ashely Eng and Casey Feaster leading the field to green. Eng would experience mechanical problems on the start allowing Feaster to get the early lead. Fifth place starter Dustin Carter would jump to the second spot quickly and begin to work on Feaster for the lead by lap two. On lap three Carter would get around Feaster and bring Kyle Eng with him. The race would go green flag start to finish and Carter would dominate the 15 lap feature. Kyle Eng was second followed by Nathan Rhodes, Casey Feaster, and Dewayne Yeomans. Carter still leads the points over Erik Mantz who finished in the seventh spot.
Wrapping up the evening would be the Youngs Enterprises Iron Man Series Race #2 for the V8 Thunderstocks. Bobby McCormick and Bubba Durbin would lead the field to green with Durbin getting the early lead for the first several laps. On Lap six a caution would fly as David Showers Sr., who started third, had worked his way in to the runner up spot putting heavy pressure on Durbin for the lead. When the green flag flew again Showers Sr. would get the advantage on Durbin and take over the top spot. David Showers Jr, who has dominated the 2016 season, started in the eighth spot and began to work his way to the front as well. Shower Jr. would get around Durbin for second just before half way and start to work on his father for the lead. Showers Sr. would slip up in turn four on lap 19 allowing Showers Jr. to get around the #8 machine, but a caution would fly before the lap could be completed moving him back to the lead. Showers Sr. would not make the same mistake again as he would lead the final six laps and go on to win his first race of 2016. Showers Jr. was second followed by tenth place starter Mike Tovet, Tim Powers, and Scotty Kay Jr., who won the first Iron Man Event in April.
VSP is back in action this coming Saturday, July 15th as the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series is back in action paying $3,000 to the winner. Integrity Painting & Allen Plumbing have put up big money in the Gary Yeomans Performance Parts Gladiator division as it will now be $400 to win with an additional $250 being sored throughout the finishing order. Also running on Saturday will be regular shows for the Allen Plumbing Hobby Stocks and Integrity Painting V8 Thunderstocks.
The Pit Gate and Drive Thru open at 4:00pm as always with the Main gate opening at 5:00pm. Drivers Meeting is at 6:30pm with hotlaps to follow and racing starts at 7:30pm!
