Greenville, MS – Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN put his Eagle Racing Engines/Brucebilt Performance Rocket race car in victory lane at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS on Friday night to pick up his fourth win of the 2016 season on the Touring Series. Scott Dedwylder remains in striking distance of Hedgecock after finishing in the second position, followed by Greenville, MS racer Greg Fore in the Washington Auto Body Rocket, Michael Arnold in the Strength Center special, and Chase Edge rounding out the top 5 finishers

The race went green for the 40 lap distance, but was slowed after completing just one lap. The caution was displayed for the stalled car of Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series competitor Peyton Wilkerson as his car came to rest at the top of the back straightaway. Wilkerson would exit the speedway along with local favorite Mike Palasini Jr. who had a flat rear tire after contact on the first lap during intense action amongst the top runners. Both drivers would return before the field restarted on lap 1.

Dedwylder would set the pace in his Scott’s Body Shop and Towing Service ride with Hedgecock a few car lengths back. The caution light would flash again on lap 7 for the spinning car of Michael Blount. Jay Downs #J1 car and Jason Britton’s AAA General Contractors rides were both damaged in the accident. All three drivers would retire from the event.

On the restart Dedwylder was again able to establish a lead, but caught lapped traffic as the race progressed. This allowed Hedgecock to reel in the 33 machine, and several other drivers began to run the leaders down as the lapped cars were battling for position in front of the leaders. At one time there was a 4 wide, 4-way battle going on for third and fourth position. The intense action would be slowed after the XXV of Justin McRee went for a spin in turn 2.

The field restarted again and Hedgecock stayed a bit closer to Dedwylder on the restart, but once Dedwylder caught lapped traffic it bunched up the race leaders. Hedgecock caught a good break in the action amongst the lapped cars and was able to get by Dedwylder on lap 16. Dedwylder would pursue and keep Hedgecock in his sites, but clean race track allowed Hedgecock to roll to the win.

The next event for the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series will be night #2 of the “Rumble on the Gumbo Nationals” at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS – 50 lap $2,500 to win on Saturday night July 16th.
