Seymour, TN Loudon, TN racer Cory Hedgecock piloted his Eagle Racing Engines/Brucebilt Performance Rocket to Victory Lane in the J.T. Kerr Memorial 40 pocketing $4,000 in the race that honors the Tennessee racing legend.
A strong field of 33 entrants checked in for battle at Mitch and Tanya McCarter’s 411 Motor Speedway, affectionately known as “Tennessee’s Action Track”. Group A and B Qualifying would take place with the top 3 qualifiers from each group locked into the feature. Two B-Mains taking the top 8 finishers would fill the rest of the field, along with provisional starters from the top 15 in National Points to fill positions 23 and 24. Hedgecock picked up a $100 Fast Time bonus provided by the folks at Stinger Race Cars/King Chassis Works to start from the pole for the 40 lap feature event.

The field would take the speedway for the 40 lap affair with lightening flashing in the background as the capacity crowd prepared for the excellent racing that the track nestled at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains is known for. As the green flag waved, the action immediately picked up as two and three wide action was taking place all through the field. The race pace was blistering as Hedgecock was out front followed by Tanner Works and Ronnie Johnson. The first of three caution periods came on lap 14 when the 29 of Rusty Ballenger and the 23A of Barry Anderson were both involved in a turn 3 skirmish.

Hedgecock was challenged on the restart by Tanner Works and Ronnie Johnson when the field would be bunched up for the “Dixie Style” double file restart. Three laps later the caution flag would be displayed again for the 101 of Forrest Trent as his car spun and came to rest in turn 4. The ensuing restart would see the biggest incident of the night after contact from the 5J of Jesse Lowe put the 32 of Jason Manley around in front of most of the field. The incident collected both Lowe and Manley, as well as the J39 of Jimmy Elliott.

After the lap 17 restart Hedgecock would remain out front with Johnson and Works battling side by side for several laps before Johnson would finally get around Works after his T35 CVR Race Car pushed high off of turn 4. Hedgecock would survive and navigate the lapped traffic to flash under the Sunoco Race Fuels Checkered flag 3.209 seconds ahead of Johnson

The next event for the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series will the $5,000 to win “Showdown on the Coast” at Golden Isles Speedway on Friday and Saturday October 14th and 15th.
